Steps for quality improvement

1. Barcode scanners on samples
2. Barcodes are scanned for entry to software.
3. Barcodes are scanned before running the samples in hematology and biochemistry machines to make sure the correct sample is run.
4. In Hematology and biochemistry machines after morning startup IQC, i.e., internal quality controls, which are samples provided by companies with predetermined ranges, are run to check the functioning of equipment as well as reagents.
5. Once all the parameters of IQC are passed then only samples of patients (pets, animals) are run.
6. If any parameter doesn’t pass or is not cleared, then recalibration of that parameter is done with a calibrator having meteorological traceability.
7. Once a month lab also participates in EQUAS ie external quality assurance scheme where 1 sample is received by the lab from EQUAS providers and lab runs all the parameters of that sample and submits the results and get a report from EQUAS providers as to accuracy of testing.
8. All the machines are interfaced with the software to avoid human errors in transcription.
9. All the reports are validated by the qualified pathologist, with all the rechecks being done for all abnormal results using a different machine or method before release of reports.
